Fifty years after its birth in 1962, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) remains an extremely important part of the evolution of the national highway system. While NCHRP continues to move forward, this 50th anniversary publication provides an opportunity to take a glance back at the history and accomplishments of the program. This document commemorates the first 50 years of NCHRP's success and highlights some of the outstanding research that continues to have an impact on how state highway agencies are building, managing, maintaining, and evolving the nation's highway system.
