The report shows how and why AIAA devised and then operated 175 employment workshops for 14,600 unemployed engineers and scientists from the defense and aerospace industry in 43 cities across the country. Volume 1 discusses the successes and failures of the program and why AIAA thinks they happened. It also assesses the program from the point of view of those active in it. The workshops were designed to help unemployed professionals unaccustomed to having to look for work competitively to do so by teaching them through a peer group discussion technique how to understand the market situation, the value and marketability of their own careers, skills and experience, how to prepare written sales material (letters and resumes), how to conduct interviews and salary negotiations, and how to do the necessary research for such a job seeking program.
