The first part of the thesis describes a departure lounge survey of scheduled outbound passengers at Toronto International Airport. The survey took place in 1968 from May 27th to June 2nd and covered about 6 percent of all outbound passengers during the survey week. The survey measured the following characteristics of Toronto air travellers: age, sex, martial status, income, residence, occupation, work of employer, frequency of travel by air, trip purpose, means of transportation to the airport and travel time to the airport. In addition, maps were produced which showed the origin pattern of the air travellers. Sufficient data was collected for performing a correlation analysis to formulate zonal passenger generation equations using land use and socioeconomic data. The second part of the thesis deals with airport access: driving time to the airport, the various means of transportation to the airport and the corresponding fares and travel times. (Author)
