For the Corridor location study, the project is being considered as a unit and represents a realignment of Illinois Route 29 around the east and south side of Pekin, Illinois for a length of approximately 10 miles in Tazewell County. There are several major barriers affecting the movement of street traffic in and near Pekin. It is believed that a highway with a controlled watershed and undisturbed grass right-of-way will be more beneficial to the environment than the present operation. However, some small animal species will be affected by the highway construction. The corridor could displace a maximum of 15 families, but with refinement in the selection of the design alignment, this effect could be less significant. It is felt that there will be some increase in the noise level of this area because of the new highway. However, this should be minimized since the corridor traverses mainly agricultural and wooded gullys type land use and only a few people will be affected.
