Due to the extremely rural nature of most of Wyoming, the safety of the traveling public is of primary importance to WYDOT. Increases in highway demand have traditionally been addressed by adding capacity; however, as costs of construction and additional right-of-way escalate, intelligent transportation systems are being looked at to address problems evolving with the changing transportation needs.
