The purpose of this research study was to document and evaluate the Category II Experimental Concrete Texturing project. Several texturing techniques, were tried and compared in order to determine which concrete pavement texture would perform best in regard to skid resistance, durability non hydroplaning properties, noise levels and uniformity. Initially transverse metal tines produced the highest skid number and the best speed gradient. It was recommended that the texturing technique of a longitudinal burlap drag followed by metal tines applied transversely to the centerline of the concrete pavement, be continued as standard on all new concrete pavements and bridge decks.
