Precision guided weapons are becoming more and more sophisticated. Terminology such as Global Positioning System, Differential Global Positioning System, Laser Radar, Synthetic Aperture Radar, Inertial Navigation System, and Kalman Filtering have become prevalent as weapons are made smarter and more precise. This study comprised an examination of the midcourse and terminal navigation and guidance schemes implemented in the Armament Directorate's advanced development guidance programs. The implementation of these navigation and guidance schemes allow the weapon to be more precise. This report describes these implementations and provides a background for the engineer or manager on the elements that comprise an autonomously guided weapon.
