This report describes the development and evaluation of a K-12 pedestrian safety curriculum for suburban and rural schools. The three program curriculum, called PEDSAFE, was developed to combat pedestrian accidents which victimize suburban/rural children. The Elementary and On-Bus Programs were designed to train safe behaviors in four pedestrian situations--midblock crossing, intersection crossing, walking along the roadway, and pedestrian movement near the school bus. The Junior/Senior High School Program teaches pedestrian safety principles. The report consists of four volumes. Volume 1 describes PEDSAFE development and the evaluation results.
