The purpose of this part of the study was to determine the extent to which altimetry is involved as a causal factor in aircraft accidents and incidents. Reviews were made of avaiation activities. In addition, accident records for available non-U. S. air carriers were included. These data were supplemented by world-wide comments in response to a survey conducted on the subject of altimetry. The scope of this effort included records encompassing over 300 million flying hours, over 41,000 accidents and 72,000 incidents. In addition, over 770 civil aviation malfunction reports involving altimetry and pitot static system discrepancies were included. (Author)
