Density trends may represent a previously unexplained driver of historic submarine cost growth in excess of inflation. The briefing looks at a number of factors that suggest minimizing weight is not cost saving. These include deck surface area and hull diameter influence on hydrodynamic drag along with increase in useable volume. A number of density measurements are examined.
