A series of flight evaluations were conducted to validate recommendations made at the 13th All Weather Operations Panel (AWOP) Meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The recommendations addressed permissible Microwave Landing System (MLS) azimuth antenna offsets from the primary runway by permissible parallel secondary runway locations, and the use of standard distance measuring equipment for computed centerline operations. In all cases, flight data validated the recommendations. Additionally, subject pilots expressed strong support for the advanced procedures they flew. Although not an objective of the evaluation, interoperability of MLS equipment manufactured in five different countries was demonstrated.
