The paper reports a comprehensive investigation into the cause and effect of rotor-produced modulation, in order to assess its consequences in the performance of frequency modulated systems of communication. The investigation also included detailed measurements of the polar field patterns of two airborne aerials of a similar type; one mounted above and the other below the helicopter fuselage. Whilst this investigation was carried out in connection with a particular communications project, the results described are applicable to a wide range of airborne systems of future design since the general case can be predicted from the information given in the report.
