A 19-year-old carpenter helper died after falling out of a John Deere motorized utility cart. The victim was riding in the right side passenger seat when the cart made a sudden turn to the left and the victim fell out, striking his head on the pavement. Although the cart was equipped with hand holds and warning signs identifying this hazard, they may not have been utilized. The MO FACE investigator concluded that, in order to prevent future similar occurrences, employers should: develop, implement and enforce a comprehensive safety program that includes, but is not limited to, training in hazard recognition and avoidance.
