In order to assess the the qualitative and quantitative aspects of psychological fitness for flying, a flight variant of the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) was used. The flight variant of the TAT consisted of microsocial topics (intimate, family relations) and pictures on aviation subjects. It was concluded that by using the flight variant of the TAT one can detect psychological traits that are important to successful performance of flight assignments, which cannot be assessed by other methods in a number of cases.
