The main objective of this study was to determine average accident statistics for Kentucky highways. The statistics include an average and critical number and rates of accidents calculated for different types of highways in rural and urban areas which can be used to identify locations that have deviant rates of accidents. It includes an analysis of traffic accident data from 1986-1990, data in the preparation of the problem identification of Kentucky's Annual Highway Safety Plan and a summary of results and recommendations for the problem identification areas. Theses areas include alcohol, occupant protection, speed, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, vehicle defects, drugs, school bus and truck accidents.
