This citation summarizes a one-page announcement of technology available for utilization. The U.S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Command investigated the overall performance of 17 locally-purchased, commercial automotive engine oils that were advertised to have an American Petroleum Institute (API) rating of SAE with a nonpremium viscosity grade of SAE 10W-30. These oils were subjected to the specification requirements given in MIL-L-46152, as well as other tests. Many of the oils tested did not meet the physical/chemical requirements of MIL-L-46152. This is casse for concern, as the use of these oils could cause potential problems in automotive engines. ...FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Detailed information about the technology described may be obtained by ordering the NTIS report, order number: AD-A082180, price code: PC A03 or contact Project officer Thomas C. Bowan, (703) 664-3435.
