The Heat Engine Propulsion Division (HEPD) of the US Department of Energy's Office of Transportation Systems has a continuing interest in industry's viewpoints and opinions on the needs and focus of advanced research for transportation energy conservation. Industry Perspectives (IP) activities have been conducted by HEPD for the past four years to allow the private sector input into HEPD's Program planning and priority setting and to provide feedback on the content and progress of HEPD programs. In 1986, IP efforts were concentrated on the two major forums where HEPD's research results were presented: the 24th Automotive Technology Development Contractors' Coordination Meeting (CCM) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Fuels and Lubricants Meeting. The SAE meeting was used to present the Alternative Fuels Utilization Program (AFUP) research activities. This reflects HEPD's interest in maximizing the exposure of its research results to industry, thus increasing the potential for rapid transfer of technology to those who would most benefit from it.
