Two-dimensional hydrodynamic theory is applied in order to obtain the drifting force per unit length on a two-dimensional body floating in oblique regular waves with the object of applying it to ship forms by a strip method. A simple resultant formula is obtained.
In order to confirm the foregoing theory, some experiments were carried out on a model of a Series 60, block coefficient .70 ship to compare the measured drifting forces and moments with the results calculated by the theory. The agreement between theory and experiment is very satisfactory.
