In Brazil, all urban centres in development are particularly problematical as far as their traffic management is concerned. Brazilian traffic kills 50,000 people yearly-one every ten minutes-and it is the third death cause in the country, coming only after heart diseases and cancer. The Register of Traffic Violation of excess speed through electronic equipment is a definitive project, which has been consolidating. The little opposition that it still finds-due mainly to the lack of education of Brazilian drivers-serves only to nourish a controversy that ends up by offering more information to society, and it will doubtless be eliminated when reduction of accidents rates is statistically proved. In Campinas, at least, a change of behaviour in traffic is already noticed. Even if in the rest of the country disrespect to traffic signs is still common practice, here it can be seen, for example, that drivers reduce speed even in areas where there are no electronic equipment, but that have received signs controlling speed.
