We report on the analysis of a periodic photonic structure integrated along a planar THz transmission line. Simulations in the frequency domain show that this structure periodically loaded with inductances and capacitances exhibits left-handed properties in a frequency band around 300 GHz. A time domain analysis of the line is proposed and we investigate the possibility to use subpicosecond Franz-Keldysh sampling to clearly show the opposite sign of group and phase velocity in the frequency band of interest. Specific pulse-shaping techniques to handle the high dispersive nature of the line are specially addressed.
