With the increasing demand for highway reconstruction and expansion, highway reconstruction and expansion projects in economically dense areas often involve more than ten lanes and have small interworking node spacing. These projects also experience high traffic volume, making it difficult to avoid the use of complex interworking interchanges with interweaving sections. To study the safety and design methods of complex overpass interweaving areas on super multilane expressways, this study relied on the Shenshan West Expressway Summary Project in Guangdong Province. The study analyzed traffic behavior under different traffic conditions and connection forms through calculations, actual observations, and simulation analysis. The study obtained design requirements for complex overpass interweaving areas on super multi-lane expressways.
