Automatic fare collection and contactless card systems are of great importance for urban public transport. They are the result of a major revolution which is even more important than globalization because, in certain cases, it underlies that process. This marks a general reversal of the trend in all industries and service sectors, a transition from a period of supply-driven rarity to a period of abundance where demand takes the upper hand. Transport must be in tune with this phenomenon. The customer must become king in the transport sector too; we must focus totally on him. By the same token, we cannot avoid concerns about costs (in a subsequent phase, probably due to the relative weight of the public sector in our business). Accordingly, customer obsessions and costs will be imperatives in our lines of business.
