Two direct voltage control (DVC) strategies for the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system are proposed and comparatively studied in this paper. The strategies are especially utilized in variable-speed applications, in order to stabilize the PWM rectifier output voltage on the dc bus. One of the DVC strategies uses hysteresis control (HC) of the dc bus voltage to determine the PWM signals, while the other uses PI control of the dc bus voltage together with the space vector modulation (SVM) to determine the PWM signals. The former strategy exhibits simplicity in both theory and implementation, whilst the latter has better performance on the output dc voltage. Both strategies are analyzed with MTALAB/Simulink and verified by experiments with a laboratory test bench.
