Summary form only given. A few techniques are presently used for polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) measurements. However all of them have some drawbacks: no information on beat-length (L/sub B/) and on correlation length (L/sub C/) are available, differential group delay (DGD) can be measured only over the total fiber length (L) and all techniques need both the fiber ends. To overcome these difficulties, we have developed a new equipment based on backscattering technique that allow us to measure DGD, L/sub B/ and L/sub C/ in the same time using only one fiber end.
