Simultaneously solving the problems of capacitor placement and distributed generation (DG) allocation in distribution systems with variable power demand is a time-consuming and challenging task, particularly in large distribution systems. One way to resolve this issue is to solve the capacitor placement problem after DG allocation, or vice versa. However, the solutions obtained by sequentially allocation of shunt capacitors and DG units are not as optimal as those achieved by their simultaneous placement. Another solution is to solve the problems of DG and capacitor allocation at the same time for peak load, but this causes answers obtained significantly far from optimal. Therefore, this study presents a new model for the simultaneous allocation of DG and capacitor bank units in distribution systems that feed consumers with variable power demands. The evaluation of the results illustrates the good performance of the proposed mathematical model for the simultaneous allocation of shunt capacitors and distributed generators in radial feeders under variable demands.
