With every passing day, the population of the world is increasing. As a result, the number of vehicles on the roads are also increasing across the globe. This growing trend in the number of vehicles have caused the parking space issues in the urban areas. It has been observed that, it has become difficult and time consuming process for the drivers to find a free and suitable parking place for their vehicles due to the growing number of vehicles. Furthermore, the drivers also burn the liters of gas (energy) on average in the search of a free parking space. This work presents a solution for the parking issues in the urban centers by developing a smart parking system (mobile application along with the hardware model), which allows the drivers to prebook the parking spaces and park their vehicles safely. The basic purpose of this mobile application is to not only provide users with the information about the free slots but to also assist them in reserving the parking place in advance. The additional security features in this application make the parking experience safe along with reducing user’s waste of time and energy. In case, a person does not show up after reserving the parking space, the system cancels the reserved parking slot automatically after a certain duration of time, which makes the system self-sustaining for all scenarios.
