Current amplifier research at the NRL Vacuum Electronics Branch emphasizes techniques to extend the bandwidth and average power capability of gyro-devices for millimeter wave radar applications. This paper discusses the implementation of a wideband, high average power compatible, TE/sub 11/ mode gyro-TWT amplifier design, with a peak output power of 90 kW and a 3 dB bandwidth of 6 GHz in the K/sub a/ band, using a specific distributed loss approach.
