This paper aims to provide an overview of the SESAR programme project P15.2.6 “Future Mobile Satellite Communications” devoted in defining the, mission requirements and external interfaces of a Long Term (Class A 1) Satellite Communications (SatCom) data link solution, and explaining the relationship with P15.2.4 project in charge of defining the multilink environment of the FCI (Future Communication Infrastructure). This paper aims also to present the Verification and Validation (V&V) approach and the guidelines that have been defined to design a verification facility, able to achieve the European Operational Concept Validation Methodology (E-OCVM) [1] V2 and V3 maturity level objectives for this new technology, and to support the execution of testing activities building verification scenarios‥ The paper will also provide an introduction of the test bed architecture that has been developed in the frame of ESA/Iris Programme [2] and that will be initially used for the execution of a dedicated test campaign in the P 15.2.6 framework.
