A 22-fold pulse-duration compression around 1 /spl mu/m is achieved in an air-guiding anomalously dispersive photonic-crystal-fibre. 3.6 ps pulses from an Yb-fibre laser are compressed to 163 fs in the totally-fibre integrated format. Peak/average power scalability is feasible.
