Internet of Vehicles (IoV), is the internet on wheels having sensors, On Board Units (OBUs), and users to create a communication network. The IoV lessens road fatalities, pedestrian deaths, traffic jams, and road congestion. These applications significantly improve the development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and increase the transportation efficiency, safety, and global value of automobiles. Therefore, to assure the safety of pedestrians and decrease the risk of accidents, pedestrian detection in IoV plays a significant role. This paper provides detailed insights into existing research on pedestrian detection techniques and the role of pedestrian detection in IoV. Furthermore, a comparison between traditional, deep learning-based, and hybrid approaches has been discussed with its advantages and limitations.
