A mathematical model was used to simulate the thermal and dissolved oxygen (D.O.) content of the proposed Falls Lake project and to evaluate the adequacy of the proposed multilevel intake structure for satisfying downstream temperature and D.O. objectives. The study indicated that proper operation of the proposed impoundment would result in satisfying the temperature objective. Low D.O. content values are predicted, reflecting the quality of water available for release through the intake structure and outlet works. However, reaeration of flow released through the multilevel outlet works should be sufficient to increase the D.O. content of the downstream release up to or above the desired minimum level of 5 mg/l.
