The present invention provides a virtual steering system model capable of reflecting various design requirements in target steering torque according to a change in a steering angle in a region in which the steering angle is relatively large. Provided is an electric power steering control method, which comprises the steps of: setting a virtual steering system model including a column connected between a steering wheel and a rack gear; calculating column stiffness torque using the torsional displacement of the column as a variable in the set virtual steering system model; and calculating target steering torque based on the calculated column stiffness torque.
