본 발명은, 비틀림 결함의 발생이 억제된 고품질의 스틸 코드용의 강선이며, 소정의 성분 조성을 갖고, 강선의 선 직경(R)이 1.0mm 이상 3.5mm 이하, 인장 강도가 1100MPa 이상이다. 강선의 외주를 따라 연질부가 형성되어 있고, 연질부의 비커스 경도는, 강선의 선 직경(R)의 1/4의 깊이에 있어서의 비커스 경도보다도 Hv30 이상 낮고, 연질부의 두께는, 5㎛ 이상 0.1×Rmm 이하이다. 강선의 중심부 조직은, 펄라이트를 면적%로 95% 이상 100% 이하의 비율로 함유하고 있다. 강선의 표면으로부터 깊이 5㎛까지의 펄라이트의 평균 라멜라 간격은, 강선의 중심의 펄라이트의 평균 라멜라 간격보다도 작고, 그들의 간격의 차가 3nm 이상 60nm 이하이다.
