To reduce a gap and a step even if the gap and the step between a station platform end edge and a vehicle doorway vary.SOLUTION: A gap step reduction system 1 is for reducing a gap and a step between the platform end edge 211 of a platform 2 and the vehicle doorway 31 of a vehicle 3, and comprises: a detection unit 4; a slide lifting unit 51; and a control unit 6. The detection unit 4 detects a gap amount and a step amount between the platform end edge 211 and the vehicle doorway 31. The slide lifting unit 51 is provided to the platform end edge 21 corresponding to the door position of the vehicle 3 stopped at a station. The control unit 6 controls motion of the slide lifting unit 51. The slide lifting unit 51 has an overhanging state where it overhangs to the vehicle 3 side and a tip side rises and a stored state where it does not overhang, and an overhanging amount and the rising amount of the tip in the overhanging state can be adjusted. The control unit 6 adjusts the overhanging amount and the rising amount of the slide lifting unit 51 in the overhanging state on the basis of the detected gap amount and the detected step amount.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
