To provide an automatic operation device and a merging vehicle response control method capable of improving convenience of automatic driving.SOLUTION: An automatic driving ECU 30 starts control to temporarily extend an inter-vehicle distance from a preceding vehicle by a predetermined amount when recognizing a merging vehicle. In addition, when the merging vehicle remains at a timing when the remaining distance to a merge start point is less than a predetermined reconfirmation threshold, a planned stop position is set near the merging start point, and deceleration control is started toward stopping at the planned stop position. When there are still merging vehicles remaining, even if a predetermined number or more of vehicles merge in front of a self vehicle after stopping, a driver is requested to change driving. The automatic driving ECU 30 can continue automatic driving control until the number of merging vehicles reaches a predetermined value or more, or until an override operation is performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4

    【課題】自動運転の利便性を向上可能な自動運行装置、及び合流車応答制御方法を提供することを提供する。【解決手段】自動運転ECU30は、合流車を認識した場合には、一時的に先行車との車間距離を所定量伸ばすための制御を開始する。また、合流開始点までの残り距離が所定の再確認閾値未満となったタイミングにおいて合流車が残存している場合には合流開始点付近に停止予定位置を設定するとともに、停止予定位置での停止に向けた減速制御を開始する。停止後、自車両の前に所定数以上の車両が合流してもなお、合流車が残存している場合にはドライバに運転交代を要求する。自動運転ECU30は、合流車の数が所定値以上となるか、オーバーライド操作が行われるまでは自動運転制御を継続しうる。【選択図】図4
