To provide a periphery monitoring device capable of displaying an image with improved visibility when an image captured by an in-vehicle imaging unit is displayed on a display device.SOLUTION: A periphery monitoring device includes a projection surface acquisition unit for acquiring a three-dimensional virtual projection surface having at least a first surface represented by a virtual three-dimensional space, and a side surface rising in a height direction from the first surface, a virtual viewpoint setting unit for setting the position of a virtual viewpoint, a correction unit for correcting at least one of a display mode in the height direction of its own vehicle model and a display mode in the height direction of a surrounding image according to the position of the virtual viewpoint when a virtual projection plane obtained by projecting the surrounding image of the vehicle captured by an imaging unit onto at least the side surface, and the own vehicle model are displayed, and a virtual image generator for generating, after the correction, a virtual image from the virtual viewpoint when facing a region containing the own vehicle model in a virtual three-dimensional space where the own vehicle model is placed on a first surface of the virtual projection plane onto which the surrounding image is projected, and an output unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
