To minimize a replacement frequency of a lubricant by sufficiently suppressing temperature rise of the lubricant in a gear device for a railway vehicle in which a small gear and a large gear 3 are housed in a gear box 1 in a state of being horizontally engaged with each other, the gear box is provided with a first oil reservoir portion 4 in which a lower portion of the large gear is immersed, a second oil reservoir portion positioned at a lower part of the small gear, and a partitioning wall 6 for partitioning the first oil reservoir portion and the second oil reservoir portion, and a communication hole 61 for communicating the second oil reservoir portion and the first oil reservoir portion is formed on the partitioning wall.SOLUTION: A pair of partitioning walls 7 positioned at axial both outer sides of a large gear, are vertically disposed at a peripheral wall lower portion of a gear box along a peripheral surface lower portion of the large gear, a first oil reservoir portion is defined between both partitioning walls, third oil reservoir portions 8 communicated with a second oil reservoir portion, are respectively defined between each partitioning wall and a side wall at each side in an axial direction of the gear box, and the third oil reservoir portions are partitioned by each partitioning wall in a non-communicated state to the first oil reservoir portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
