To provide an illumination device, a hologram element, and a vehicle control method capable of optimizing a lighting mode in an illuminated zone with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An illumination apparatus that illuminates an illuminated zone 4 having a first direction and a second direction crossing the first direction includes a light source 2 to emit a coherent light beam, and a diffraction optical element 3 to diffract the coherent light beam incident from the light source. The diffraction optical element 3 diffracts the incident coherent light beam so that width of the illuminated zone 4 in the second direction gradually becomes wider along the first direction of the illuminated zone 4 from a nearer side to the diffraction optical element 3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
