PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device capable of notifying a driver of the risk of a collision with a preceding vehicle in an appropriate notification mode.SOLUTION: A driving support ECU 1 calculates a safe inter-vehicle distance from a preceding vehicle on the basis of a traveling speed of an own vehicle and also successively calculates an approach degree by dividing the safe inter-vehicle distance by an actual inter-vehicle distance. The driving support ECU 1 successively calculates a time-to-collision (hereinafter called TTC) by dividing an inter-vehicle distance from a preceding vehicle by a relative speed. The approach degree and the TTC respectively function as parameters indicating a degree of the risk of a collision between the preceding vehicle and the own vehicle. A notification level determination section F6 evaluates a risk level from both of standpoints of the approach degree and the TTC and determines a notification level indicating strength to appeal the risk of a collision with the preceding vehicle to a driver. 【課題】より適切な報知態様でドライバに、先行車両との衝突の危険性を報知することができる運転支援装置を提供する。【解決手段】運転支援ECU1は、自車両の走行速度に基づいて先行車両との安全車間距離を算出するとともに、当該安全車間距離を実際の車間距離で除算することにより、接近度を逐次算出する。また、運転支援ECU1は、先行車両との車間距離を相対速度で除算することによって衝突余裕時間(以降、TTC)を逐次算出する。これら接近度とTTCはそれぞれ先行車両と自車両とが衝突する危険の度合いを示すパラメータとして機能する。報知レベル決定部F6は、接近度とTTCの両方の観点からリスクレベルを評価し、ドライバに先行車両との衝突の危険性を訴えかける強さを示す報知レベルを決定する。報知処理部F7は、報知レベル決定部F6によって決定された報知レベルに応じた態様で報知処理を実施する。【選択図】図1
