PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new on-vehicle machine capable of properly communicating with a new and old optical beacons and multi-rate compatible in an uplink direction.SOLUTION: An on-vehicle machine, which executes wireless communication by an optical signal with an optical beacon installed on a road, comprises: an optical transmission part capable of performing electro-optical conversion at two kinds of high and low transmission rates; an optical reception part capable of performing photoelectric conversion at a prescribed transmission rate; and a communication control part (on-vehicle control device) which executes preceding processing for setting transmission rate of a preceding frame U1 to a low rate, and subsequent processing for setting transmission rate of subsequent frames U2 to U4 to a high rate or for determining whether to set the subsequent frames U2 to U4 to non-transmission or to set the transmission rate thereof to a low rate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
