PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-layered slide member having excellent load resistance and wear resistance, and a rack-and-pinion type steering device of an automobile using the same.SOLUTION: A multi-layered slide member includes: an aluminum or aluminum alloy gear case 3 having a hollow portion 2; a steering shaft 6 rotatably supported by the gear case 3 through roller bearings 4, 5; a pinion 7 integrally disposed on a shaft end of the steering shaft 6 and rotatably supported by the gear case 3 through the steering shaft 6 in the hollow portion 2; a rack bar 9 provided with rack tooth 8 being engaged with the pinion 7; a rack guide 10 disposed in the hollow portion 2 of the gear case 3 and slidably supporting the rack bar 9; and a spring 11 composed of a coil spring pressing the rack guide 10 toward the rack bar 9.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
