The invention relates to an autonomous agricultural robot (100), referred to as robot, comprising: a straddle chassis (30) defining an aisle through which a row of crops can pass, propulsion means (40) for moving the robot (100) in a direction of forward travel, a control unit (50) for controlling the robot (100) and an obstacle-characterization device. This device comprising: obstacle-detection means (10) which are configured to detect an obstacle lying in the path of the autonomous agricultural robot (100), a processing unit (20) configured so that when an obstacle is detected by the obstacle-detection means (10), the unit logs the data collected by the obstacle-detection means (10), and/or processes the data collected by the obstacle-detection means (10) and determines at least one characteristic of the detected obstacle.
