A system for detecting a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction. The system comprises a Doppler radar (1) designed to detect a speed of displacement of the vehicle in a predetermined area of travel along the road, the radar being configured to perform a plurality (n) of operations for detecting the vehicle in the area travelled along and for emitting an alarm if the speed values (Vi) detected during the plurality (n) of detection operations exceed a predefined speed (V) a predefined number of times (m, where m ‰¤n).
