Cellular connectivity and quality of service (QoS) monitoring and prediction for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications are provided. A core network (CN) may select a secondary UAV for communication link monitoring according to a flight route of a target UAV. The CN may receive a monitoring report of the secondary UAV, which may be used to derive a communication link quality prediction for a flight path of the target UAV. The target UAV may discover and select adjacent pilot UAVs that fly prior to the trajectory of the target UAV. The target UAV may receive a monitoring report from the piloting UAV, which may be used to predict a communication link quality for a flight path of the target UAV. An unmanned aerial system (UAS) network function (NF) may collect QoS monitoring information from other NFs for predetermined/popular flight routes. The UAS NF may provide a prediction to the USS (e.g., upon request).
