In order to provide a cableway (1) which allows as autonomous operation as possible with as high safety as possible for persons, a detection device (6) for detecting a measured variable (M) of airborne sound (7) is provided in at least one cableway station (2a); according to the invention, a classification unit (8) is provided, which is designed to identify at least one defined safety-related sound event from the measured variable (M) or a variable derived therefrom, and the control unit (5) is designed to operate the cableway (1) in the determined safety operating mode when the defined safety-related sound event is identified.
