One aspect of the invention relates to a method comprising the steps of:-providing a computer-controlled brake (14) having a first solenoid valve (54) capable of selectively coupling an actuation tube (42) to the atmosphere so as to prevent any pressurization of the actuation tube and subsequent release of the locomotive automatic brake, and a second solenoid valve (64) capable of selectively coupling the actuation tube (42) to the atmosphere so as to prevent any pressurization of the actuation tube and subsequent release of the locomotive automatic brake; the second solenoid valve is able to selectively pressurize the independent application and release tube (44) so as to maintain the applied brake cylinder pressure in the locomotive independent brake and to prevent loss in the locomotive independent brake, characterized by further comprising the steps of:-receiving an operator input indicative of a desired marshalling exchange; and-operating the first solenoid valve using a computer-controlled brake to couple the actuation tube to the atmosphere and operating the second solenoid valve to pressurize the independent application and release tubes, so as to be able to perform a marshalling exchange without risk of rolling. Another aspect of the invention relates to an electronic air brake system configured to perform the method.
