The invention provides a charging device and a control method thereof, the charging device comprises an AC-DC module, a DC bus, a DC-DC module, a charging circuit and a first controller, the charging circuit is connected with the DC bus, the AC-DC module comprises an output capacitor, and the output capacitor is connected with the DC bus. Wherein the AC-DC module is used for converting alternating current output by an alternating current power supply into direct current and outputting the direct current to a direct current bus, and the DC-DC module is used for obtaining the direct current from the direct current bus and carrying out voltage conversion. And the charging circuit is used for charging the output capacitor of the AC-DC module through the DC bus when the charging equipment is started. And the first controller is used for controlling the AC-DC module to stop working, controlling the circuit connection between the AC-DC module and the AC power supply to be disconnected and controlling the circuit connection between the charging circuit and the AC power supply to be disconnected when the charging equipment is in a standby state, so that the standby power consumption of the charging equipment is greatly reduced.
