The invention relates to a commercial vehicle range extender control method and system, and relates to the technical field of the commercial vehicle manufacturing industry, and the method comprises the steps: presetting a plurality of engine working points of a vehicle, and presetting a first threshold value of the electric quantity of a whole vehicle battery; obtaining the remaining capacity of the whole vehicle battery electric quantity and the whole vehicle demand power; when the remaining amount of the electric quantity of the battery of the whole vehicle is smaller than the first threshold value, a range extender is started, the required power of the whole vehicle is compared with the average value of the power of the working points of the two adjacent engines, if the required power of the whole vehicle is smaller than the average value, the lower working point is selected as the working point of the range extender, and otherwise, the higher working point is selected as the working point of the range extender; and controlling the range extender to output power at the selected working point. According to the range extender, the working point switching frequency of the range extender is reduced, the problem of torque fluctuation in the adjusting process of the range extender is avoided, the range extender works stably as a whole, the NVH of an engine is better, and the fuel economy and the emission performance of the engine are improved.
