The invention discloses a system and a method for detecting the hoisting multiplying power of a crane. The system comprises an image acquisition device, an image processor and a controller. The image acquisition equipment is configured to acquire image data of the lifting hook; the image processor is configured to determine the height difference between the lifting hook and the crane boom head according to the image data of the lifting hook; and the controller is configured to determine the hoisting multiplying power of the crane according to the height difference, the boom length of the crane and the hoisting rope releasing length. According to the scheme, the height difference between the lifting hook and the crane boom head is determined through the image acquisition equipment and the image processor, and then the hoisting multiplying power of the crane is determined through the controller, so that the technical risk and the operation difficulty of detecting the hoisting multiplying power of the crane can be reduced.
