The invention provides a steel rail service safety calculation method and device, and relates to the technical field of railway safety operation. The calculation method comprises the following steps: acquiring the maximum dynamic bending stress of a rail bottom at a steel rail damage pit under the action of a vehicle load, the additional dynamic bending stress of an additional impact effect generated by tread collapse on the damage pit, and the temperature stress borne by the rail bottom at the steel rail damage pit; based on the maximum dynamic bending stress of the rail bottom, the additional dynamic bending stress and the rail bottom temperature stress, calculating the maximum tensile stress of the bottom of the steel rail damage pit under the influence of low tread collapse; and evaluating the service safety of the steel rail according to the maximum tensile stress and the fatigue limit under the corresponding damage. According to the calculation method and device for the steel rail service safety, the steel rail service safety can be calculated and evaluated under the condition that the tread collapse and the nearby rail bottom damage pit exist in the steel rail at the same time.
